mental illness and feminism

Feb ’15

i havent done enough reading on this, i know theres lots of radical feminist writing thats been done on the subject but i think itd be interesting to write my thoughts about it before reasearching it at all lol. and ill see how i feel after it.

i think being a radical feminist would probably classify you as schizophrenic or paranoid or whatever. like, i think if i honestly told my psychiatrist about how i feel about men/the world, she would diagnose me with schizophrenia. same with all radfems i think.

it reminds me of stuff ive read about psychiatry being rooted in racism along with misogyny. i read that schizophrenia originated in antiblack racism or was at least mostly applied to black people in the past. it was used to medicalize(?) black people who were aware of their humanity. like slaves who wanted freedom- i think there was a specific diagniosis for these people, that said they had a disease that made them want to be free. and black people after that and still up until now. if they understood the way white supremacy was killing them and their people, they would be deemed insane pretty much.

for women, it was basically the same thing. (again, im ignorant af and i dont have the sources for any of these right now so…..,,,)

but yeah. people dismiss the folks who say that ‘insane people are actually just seeing stuff that is there but we cant see’ and stuff like that, but i think i believe that. because a lot of them arent insane at all. theyre literally just observing reality. im not saying this about the people who hallucinate or think the cia is after them, im talking about the people who know what theyre talking about, i guess. ok. yeah. bye.

Mar ’15 edit:

yo and when i first wrote this i didnt even think about the public opinion of feminism/feminists which is mostly “they are crazy insane mentally ill”

misogyny in art

Feb 2015

nvnvnvnvnnvn

men’s (extreme, blatant) misogyny is consistently ignored or praised when it’s wrapped up in the label ‘art’. same with racism, but less so. art is not exempt from critical analysis! if a gross woman hater decides to paint a picture about his hatred of women, it should be criticized and ridiculed and thrown in the trash, not praised as some convoluted statement about the human condition and male depravity.

thats actually a WAY TOO common theme in misogynist art- the “message” or “theme” of the piece is actually about men, the male condition, a man’s desperate loneliness, a man’s sad strange mental state, men coping with losing masculine privilege, “masculinity”<– big one. the paintings, featuring or centered around dead women, tortured women, women being raped, deformed women, naked, objectified, hypersexualized women, aren’t even about the women!!! the women are are a plot device to make statements about men!

people argue that these pieces are criticizing masculinity, saying something about how men are so fucked up and whatever. but its never about the women being dehumanized and killed and tortured…….

red pill or whatever

Feb 2015

this shit is so interesting. ok, so these are incomplete thoughts cuz i’m still researching this stuff sort of (i shouldnt be doing that its bad for my health, exposing myself to all this intense misogyny, but,,,……)

the reddit/mra/redpill brand of misogyny seems to be at least partially based on these men’s jealousy of womens ability to attract men. like, they’re upset because women can ‘walk into a bar and open her legs and all the guys will be all over her’, but they, as straight men, can’t do that with women. they believe this is female privilege.

what they dont seem to understand is that no woman wants a bunch of guys all over her. they dont understand that male attention is unpleasant as fuck, especially random weird guys at a bar. like, men just cannot seem to grasp the idea that women want the same kind of attention as men do. like, straight men understand that (sexual) attention from other males is threatening, stressful, awkward, dangerous. (and that attention from females is validating, selfesteem boosting, warm, nonthreatening.) even though many women are straight, they still have the same reactions to the different forms of attention as men do, because we’re all humans, its not just men.

the other thing theyre jealous of is how women are ‘coddled’ and dont have to do as much work. which, honestly, i shouldn’t even address because women to 70% of all the labour in the world, and western women do twice the work men do. but i could also say that these men should pay attention to all the work the feminist movement has been doing for the past like 100 years to get workplace equality……

a quote from reddit: “women will ALWAYS be desired because men put vaginas on a pedestal, whereas I actually have to work on becoming a valuable human being before anyone wants me.”

… yo… um… listen to yourself right now mr jealous man; this is you:

“women’s qualities= vagina, men’s qualities = valuable human being”

political lesbianism

Jan 2015

i think political lesbianism is rad and a great amazing idea. i just read this https://radicallesbianfeminists.wordpress.com/2013/11/14/political-lesbian-myth-busting/ and also an older text on pol.lesbianism and why hetero relationships are trash and how its the best choice for radical women because it lets us stop contradicting ourselves by fucking our oppressors.

the big issue in lesbian and radical circles seems to be that ppl think pol. lesbianism is appropriating real lesbianism. this is based off of the idea that people are born with innate sexual orientation which is wrong.

the idea that some(most) women are born wanting to fuck men is fucked up and wrong and oppressive. why are we trying to prevent women from loving or learning to love other women? we should embrace women who choose not to fuck men and instead love women. patriarchal ideas about sexuality are all wrong, so we need to drop all of them instead of holding on to ideas like ‘born this way’. its not that ‘sexuality is fluid’- this is just a way to say ‘everybody can fuck men’. its that ‘sexuality’ is part of the grooming process of subordination of women. we need to forget about it all and just love women and love women who want to love women (ha).

i keep seeing radfems online trying to make women who have chosen a women-loving path call themselves bi or straight because they are or have been attracted to men. this completely ignores the foundations of radical feminism which state that the patriarchy grooms us to be attracted to men and to need male attention!  we cant hold on to these ideas that say that all these women are just destined to be victims of heterosexuality because they were born that way and theres nothing you can do about it! thats hella unradical. ok bye.

why do people keep drawing garnet with straightened/wavy hair and jewelry and revealing clothes

i really hate it a lot. su is special because the 3 most powerful, important adult characters in the show are women and they are powerful without having a single ounce of  ‘weaponized femininity’ or power thats based on their sexual attractiveness or ability to attract men. garnet especially has a classic superhero type costume, thats form fitting but covers everything (like almost all male superheroes and sh like chars), thats super practical, fdsknfsjkg

why are people imposing femininity on her??? nothing about her personality or way she has dressed has implied that she would straighten her hair or wear jewlery or makeup.   idk im an asshole i just want more female role models who dont submit to the forces of porn culture and the beauty industry. OK ALSO I JUST REALIZED rebecca sugar has only drawn the gems in tank tops and jeans, as far as alt. outfits go! (ok yeah beach episode, …. ok..,) but for real people should go off of that and draw the gems in more cute practical cute non patriarchal clothes.,,, :< i want butch garnet :< :<

also why do people keep making male fangems ??? there has been evidence that all the gems are woman-y so chill with that
